A Stranger’s Eyes

It was never going to happen

It was never going to happen

everything, so dull but sure

But then falling in around me

the walls went insecure.

The timing wasn’t perfect.

I just told myself to fight.

Give me reasons. Give me hope.

Give me pause for second sight.

Broken arrows in my lance.

Rotted love notes in my mind.

Places I would kill to keep

in the dreams that I made blind.

Always, nothing feels forever,

When the pain inside me cries.

We are nothing but naïve

Looking in a stranger’s eyes.

Drowning in the look you give me.

Swimming deep without the rules.

Do I see a hint of something

when I have so much to lose?

Would you promise me you love me

and then take it all away?

If I gave you my tomorrows

could you say you’re not afraid?
